Jesus Saves! I'm morally bankrupt, however

Well, despite my fears to the contrary, I didn't burst into flame when I entered church on Sunday.

I have to say that my first impression, reinforcing my initial beliefs about the sorts of people that attend these kinds of things, was not good. Standing outside during the service, I saw some individuals that could be loosely described as 'down and outs' sitting in a half-circle, singing away with varying degrees of enthusiasm. One lady in particular had a small purple flag on a stick in each hand, twirling them as she sang. Kind of like a cheerleader for Jesus.

Maybe it was semaphore?

That bit of oddity aside, once the service was done I entered and introduced myself to the Pastor. I had managed to find an old newsletter with an email address the day before and sent a message to which I received a reply, so the Pastor knew of my intended visit.

He was, somewhat surprisingly, a nice enough guy. He didn't try to save my eternal soul but probably knew a lost cause when he saw one. We made the requisite arrangements for me to return at a more convenient time to take the statements I needed which, unfortunately for the defendant, are not going to corroborate her version of events.

And the real downside is that I can't say there were any emotionally fragile hotties.
